Last night I had the honour of introducing two people to the wonder that is “jurassic park melodica” on youtube.

Cars and TVs don’t need jingles and dancing light sequences for switching on and off. What possible benefit is there to this?

With everything becoming a general purpose CPU but with wheels/a screen, product owners are just saying “Sure, why not?” instead of “No, that’s pointless”

I hate this shit

This should not be allowed.

GiiKER - Toys Meet Technology

These look like great wee toys.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like Oldboy is in the Wee Filmhouse section, so I don’t think it’s a kid friendly screening. He’ll just have to put up with the louder volume.

In the last three days I’ve watched three films of my choice, start to finish without interruption. It’s been a while.

And let me tell you, 28 Years Later, Monsters Inc, and then Bone Temple is a great run of movies.

The amount of highland cow themed AI slop on display in Edinburgh is quite something.

cleaning up my desktop and found this little gem

I’ve installed home assistant and started configuring as many things as I can. I needed another timesink.

Return to the Filmhouse

My first time back at the Filmhouse in several years, and the little one’s first full film in a cinema experience, had me feeling quite emotional.

I didn’t realise that just walking up the steps with him to the front door would have bring such a wave of feelings.

With any luck, and a little persuasion, hopefully we can make this trip a regular event.

Ninety minute slack huddles are why I’m glad I invested in lightweight, open backed headphones.

Very excited to book tickets for me and the wee one to see Monsters Inc at the Filmhouse this weekend. Hopefully I can get him shouting “Mike Wazowski!” instead of “You’re a poo!” for a little while.

read Salammbô by Gustave Flaubert

I could certainly have started the year with something a little easier to read in small chunks.

I could end my relationship with just a click of a button.

Started coming up with a complicated scheme to better account for paypal transactions in beancount. Zerosum accounts, statement parsers…then realised I could just stop using paypal completely and solve the issue.

My knowledge of 90s pop culture is fading but During construction Mel A's infrastructure collapsed and exploded as a result of sabotage. Mel B disappeared twenty-four hours after she became operational Mel C was the final Mel constructed with assistance from the Centauri and Minbari governments

Had to get this. Straight to the Livi page.

Beginning to think that shouting “Electric Boogaloo!” every time I see a variable name, heading, or just generally coming across anything with the number “2” in it might be making me look old.

My daily mug

At some point the wee one is going to ask why my coffee mug has blood and a knife on it.

Why yes, it’s an excellent use of my spare time to add activitypub compatibility to the blog instance I sometimes use to post to social media. What else would I do with my evening?

So it turns out that you can indeed kill what doessssss not live. Yes, that’s a @2000ad.bsky.social “writer’s starter kit” from off of the cover of a comic. I own several but this is my original! Goodbye Judge Death!

View from the edge

I was going to take a picture of the Pigeon Houses, but it never works well on the phone. Instead, here’s the edge of the world.

I’m getting my first exposure to the newer Jurassic Park films with Dominion. Is this now some cross between Mission Impossible and Taken but with dinosaurs?

No escape

Me: I’m going to ignore AI discourse for a while and focus on Japanese studies.
