I’ve never seen Highlander. Do you need nostalgia to enjoy it?

Spent some time last night trying to get a fork of abcde up and running. Had to patch unmaintained perl libraries, make custom packages, and I’ve come to the conclusion that my cdrom drive is knackered.

read Fishflies by Jeff Lemire

I love starting a new Jeff Lemire book.

This damn post has absolutely ruined my brain every time I hear someone mention "for the time being." Major kudos to the poster, if I ever meet you in person I will congratulate you and then punch you in the face.

read Who on Earth is Tom Baker? An Autobiography by Tom Baker

Doing some much needed tidying and, oh look! Another bag of USB cables. I’ll definitely need to keep all of these.

My evening is sorted

That’s my evening sorted.

I think my RHA wireless earbuds have finally bitten the dust. In the meantime the company has gone out of business, so I’ll have the fun of reading lots of reviews and suffering from analysis paralysis.

Kitbashing

The wee one is not going to follow your instruction book!

Perhaps LLMs could improve Google Photos’ attempts at nostalgic galleries. Today’s was a picture of my son as a baby, and the ship that tipped over in the Leith docks three years ago.

I’ve declared my vim config a disaster zone and installed Astronvim instead. There’s various leftovers and half-configured plugins in there, so I’m taking someone else’s hard work and I’ll use it as-is for a while to develop some muscle memory. Only then will I start to think about adding some more customisation.

Then used the new setup to add some features to my Grateful Dead beets plugin, so that I can list out the releases it finds. Mmmm, hand-coding.

Got a sick child who’s not moving from the sofa, so we’ve not been anywhere today. I did manage to get the grass cut and the wormery moved back outside from the garage, so some jobs done.

Happy New Doctor Who Boxed Set Preorder Shipping Day!

If you're Scottish (or maybe from the north of England) you'll know who Oor Wullie and The Broons are as they celebrate their 90th birthday. I've drawn them a few times for licensing items and other odd things and it's always a cultural thrill.

I have a few days off coming up, and I’m going to spend a day revisiting an old hobby of going round as many charity shops as I can, looking for books.

whats keeping me writing is the idea that ok, I’m not ever gonna be Alan Moore or Garth Ennis or (pick your favourite) but also they will never ever write exactly the thing I’m currently interested in and maybe it’s only me interested in it, but I’m also the only one writing it.

Me, opening up my code: “This looks like someone who didn’t know what they’re doing wrote this in sporadic bursts late at night”

Google Photos giving me today’s nostalgia photos with the message “Has it really been two years?”. I’m wearing the same clothes. Now I think Photos is commenting on the low turnover in my wardrobe.

It’s Spring and the sun’s out. Putting all the jeans away and moving back into my shorts.

I think it might be time to explore the world of split keyboards.

The first model kit

The Boy built his first starter grade Gunpla this afternoon.

Doing okay on the reading front

I think we’re doing okay at encouraging reading so far.

Looks like I’ll be going to see Rush.

Red Dwarf is foundational for me. Watching it over and over, the search for second hand videos, setting every Windows 3.1 sound to Lister yelling “Smeg!”. RIP, Rob Grant.

Never a big Narnia guy but this 6 seconds typifies everything I love about British television.
