Oh hells yeah

Yes, please!

Akira’s coming round in the cinema again. The experience of watching it on that Sunday morning after recording it from BBC 2 is definitely a pivotal moment in my life.

Can’t wait to see it again.

“My experience with AI” blog posts end up being either “I give it enormous instructions, let it chug away and don’t read the code. It’s the future” or “I have learned to break tasks down into very small, manageable tasks, but it’s my paid subscription that’s improved my productivity.”

Deep thought and Internet searches going into a perceived problem in the code. How to avoid n+1 problem? Can sqlx easily built nested struts in arrays? Will I need a new plugin.

Wait… The whole thing is two queries and a loop. GFDI.

Hello Talk now has an AI bot joining in on helping to correct posts. Feels like it’s somewhat defeating the point of creating a community to help each other.

Then again, it’s all just for the predatory money lending ads, isn’t it?

filmisfabulous!:

Digital Transfer and Grading R3Store Studios in London provide Film is Fabulous! with professional scanning, transfer, and grading of selected films. This short video shows the 35mm reel of ‘Veronica’ being transferred, having been digitally scanned.

Love seeing these old reels brought back to life.

Potholes.

Adding to my culinary repertoire by making croutons.

We’ve started tracking food and other household goods in grocy, to try and cut down on buying duplicates when we’re out. I shouldn’t be surprised that we’re already at 60 different products to keep track of.

Hello, it's Dan McDaid:

My graphic novel DEGA is available from Oni Press and right here - DON'T MISS IT a.co/d/022tuav0

I realised it’s been nearly two years since I laid the groundwork for a 2000 AD project I’ve been wanting to build for maybe a decade. Progress is being made, and soon I’ll release more open source software with an audience in single figures.

I’d always figured the Sphinx was incredibly tall, but apparently the Kelpies are taller.

Nice pair of trousers. I wonder if they’d fit me.

It’s the year 2000. I am in my university halls of residence trying to work out the best way to rip CDs of the Grateful Dead using EAC.

It’s the year 2020. I am at home during the pandemic, trying to work out the best way to rip CDs of the Grateful Dead using the long abandoned project abcde.

It’s the year 2026. I am at my dining room table, trying to work out the best way to rip CDs of the Grateful Dead using a download of a package called Max from 2020, because the long abandoned project abcde has stopped working on macos

Oh no! The abcde package in brew has been deprecated and it’s not building! Ripping CDs is about to get more difficult

I see people talking about using AI agents to book flights as if that’s something done so regularly that it’ll save loads of time.

Then I think about Ryanair detecting that you’re using an agent and adding another fee for the privilege.

I always meant to become a member of the Filmhouse in its previous incarnation, but never did. This time, I’ve decided to take the plunge and get the little red card.

Hopefully I can make time next weekend to see the Sorceror rerelease as my first member’s ticket.

This also means I get to futz around with beancount and try to keep track of how much value I get out of the upfront cost. Cos, y’know, it’s not a hobby if I don’t write some custom code.

We didn’t make it all the way through Happy Feet in the cinema for our second trip. There’s a lot of “mild peril” in there.

I shouldn't be surprised

Another one for “I’m not the target market”.

Book metadata is still awful

Here we are in 2026 and the seemingly simple goal of finding a mobile app to scan books, find decent metadata, and create a collection is still too difficult.

Just won my first round of lunchtime mahjong!

Yes, but let's run one more UBI study first, right?
