read Salammbô by Gustave Flaubert

I could certainly have started the year with something a little easier to read in small chunks.

Started coming up with a complicated scheme to better account for paypal transactions in beancount. Zerosum accounts, statement parsers…then realised I could just stop using paypal completely and solve the issue.
Beginning to think that shouting “Electric Boogaloo!” every time I see a variable name, heading, or just generally coming across anything with the number “2” in it might be making me look old.
At some point the wee one is going to ask why my coffee mug has blood and a knife on it.
Why yes, it’s an excellent use of my spare time to add activitypub compatibility to the blog instance I sometimes use to post to social media. What else would I do with my evening?
We’re going to need a bigger pot
I was going to take a picture of the Pigeon Houses, but it never works well on the phone. Instead, here’s the edge of the world.
I’m getting my first exposure to the newer Jurassic Park films with Dominion. Is this now some cross between Mission Impossible and Taken but with dinosaurs?
Me: I’m going to ignore AI discourse for a while and focus on Japanese studies.
Phone: bing
Thanks to Consolevania, I’ll always hear Blue Stinger’s Dogs Bauser yelling “A woman?!” when reading nonsense like this.
My parents no longer have a record player, and have kept only a handful of records for nostalgic reasons. You’ve got to hold onto the classics.
I’d forgotten what an absolute belter Silent Night, Deadly Night. Great film to watch with pals in a pub.
I think Subway should have stopped at “Festive Menu” rather than “Ultimate Festive Menu”.
Disney+ has started having sync issues, I think. A couple of times a minute it seems to skip a few frames as if to catch up. Is this some kind of obsolete TV bullshit? It’s streaming over a Google TV which I hoped would mean we’d avoid that.
I’m trying not to stockpile any more digital comics, but…
I know, I’m old, but I really don’t need constant, slow motion, hi-def, blindingly bright video ads for food while blearily nursing a coffee before a flight.
I’m sure pubs are struggling, but I got charged £5.90 for two pints of soda and lime this evening, so I’m not feeling all that sympathetic.
Getting tempted to try and make the wee one watch Mysterious Cities of Gold. Can’t take any more “trio of friends learning lessons” shows.
Watching with the updated special effects on for a change.
The wee one was sick today so we ended up watching films.
Watched the original Pete’s Dragon and there’s a lot more alcoholism and child violence than I remembered.
Of course, Disney+ immediately offers the remake, so we watch that. It opens with a deadly car crash and features guns.
Doing great on the “What’s that, Daddy?” today.
Time for some Horror at Fang Rock with lunch.
